Greenhouse effect

What is the byproduct of methane when used as a fuel source, and does it contribute more to the green house effect when used as fuel than just straight methan gas, or is it cleaner?

also, its better for the environment when you burn it than if you were to just release it into the atmosphere, since carbon dioxide does relatively less in the way of greenhouse heating stuff than methane gas does.
