How can you determine if you are under a curse? If you try to save money and then exponential chain of events occurs that creates you greater loss, then you are under a curse.
What do I have in mind? You save taking one coffee less daily, and then your cellphone breaks after a month. If you repair cell phone rather than buying new, fancy one, also your car stops on the street and needs urgent repair. Your window shutters aren't fixed, so you waste more on heating. When you fix it, power surge in electric grid fries your washing machine! And so on, so on ... And by exponential I mean it grows ever faster!
I.e. you go into debt on account balance two days before salary and it is already 5% of salary in negative by this two days, for you all of a sudden started to notice so many fancy things to eat. Which are also bad for weight control and health.
You feel that if you cross that line of zero debt, you can only sink deeper. This is some negative supernatural bad luck. Which is how to put curse in plain English for those who forgot what it is.
