It's easy to hide a hidden hardware-based keylogger in a keyboard.
Wireless peripherals have bad battery life because of the wireless transmitters sending all the data to the NSA.
Precompiled binaries of "open source" projects are actually different from the source code provided. They realize most people are too impatient and/or stupid to compile stuff on their own.
Air gapping means nothing when your hardware has hidden wireless devices giving all your data away.
The reason why social media is so popular is because the government is trying to brainwash people into thinking that sharing is great and privacy is weird. This is because they know that inevitably people will catch on to spying, but they want people to be used to having all their information public. No one cares about the Snowden leaks because they "have nothing to hide" and don't value privacy anymore. Hell, people would justify it even if the NSA had cameras hidden in toilets or showers. Only terrorists hide their naked bodies.
Cameras and microphones are only cheap for consumers because they are subsidized by the government. They want self-spying devices to be as affordable as possible so that as many people as possible can use them.
All of your data is in a database in Utah and the government can look up anything in it very quickly, much like a search engine.
Shows like The Big Bang Theory and other "nerdy" stuff is trying to make technology seem cool. The reason why there's an explosion of people interested in technology and voluntary self-surveillance is because of the government's agenda to try and get people to track themselves so that the government no longer has to do it themselves.
The NSA can go away and there will still be the issue of domestic spying because everyone, even tech-illiterate people, have all sorts of tracking and recording devices and engage is surveying themselves and their friends on a daily basis. Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, smart phones, personal cameras, webcams, USB microphones... the list goes on and on.
We need to reverse this cycle. Stop depending on technology so much. Use books and maps, not smart phones. Talk with people in person, not on social networking sites.
This applies to programmers, too. Don't use Intel or AMD processors. Don't use Windows, OS X, or Linux. Don't use Xorg. Don't trust binary blobs. Write your own compilers. Don't use the internet.
