If you don't want a fragmented community, you should stay on {your social network of choice} instead
of using different forums and websites. The nature of the web is that every site(like SA subforum spawning 4chan) generates communities which generate a demand for a different/better site. Since there is demand there eventually will be supply(a new site). 4chan inspired many imageboards, with some migrating there.It didn't make 4chan worse: in fact it provided outlets for people unsatisfied with 4chan
which is what happens now. Such sites are typically smaller and have more close-knit community, which appeals to those who dislike crowd-centric himeminds of larger sites.
