Only CompSci and Programmer communities

Name: Anonymous 2013-08-03 3:31

I'm looking for some places to hang out and make friends;
somewhere geared towards CS majors and programmers.

I just joined dream.in.code.

What are some other communities?

I meant "only" to be "online."

The swearing will continue until code quality improves.

The problem is that all programming communities (the EXCEPTION is /prog/ and other world 4ch/4fchan spinoffs) are egalitarian cesspools of political correctness and Jew worship.

Especially in real life. Ever try going to a programming convention? Most are filled with Jew-loving homosexuals and men-hating womyn.

I've been away for a while.
When did /prog/ become sister board to /pol/?

There is a dedicated axis of two posters that insist on bringing all topics back to jews.

I have no idea what "hang out", in the context of the Internet, means.

Hacker News and the stuff around it is sometimes alright, but you have to take everything with a huge grain of salt. There are a lot of really obnoxious people with authoritarian attitudes who do a lot of insincere "rational debates" and passive-aggressive, politically-correct discussions in lieu of just saying that something is "bullshit." Most of the top commenters there are extremely annoying. For example, one person in particular is extremely popular there (and is regarded as highly-knowledgeable in a certain field), but he makes me, as an individual, want to break the necks of chihuahuas and throw them at cars from an overpass.

However, there are some decent people there who are smart and humble, and some of them host meetups in real life (and probably online). Perhaps you could start there.

In general, I don't hang around "programming communities." It's just a skill to me, so my advice probably sucks. The real best way to meet other CS majors would be your university.

Good luck.
