Game engine design

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-22 22:41

Hey cuties, lets talk about game engines.

What languages work best, what paradigms work best, knowledge and advice, whatever.

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-22 22:59

I've been reading about data oriented design, which sounds good in theory, but I'm wondering if anyone has experience actually implementing that kind of thing and if it's worthwhile

DA BEST GAIM DEEZIGN IS MY BAWLS

Depends on what type of engine you'd like to design. 2D, 3D, 4D.

I'm guessing 3D since 4D is only theoretically possibly and 2D is for losers and failures.

If you're up for just MS based games, I would suggest C#. If you want a broader selection of systems, I would suggest C++. Of course you need a good selection of libraries for both languages.

As for a paradigm.. Seriously? Object Oriented.

Now, go an look over some open source engine and review.

wwhy /prog/ is piss. why /prog/ is piss. #italiano

As if OOP is any good for games.

stop generalizing, or use more specific terms. These overtly broad statements consisting of only vague paradigm discrimination reek of /g/.

i would like to design a 4D game, help me

I heard that the FIBONACCI BUTT SORT is exceptional for dealing with 4D graphics and game mechanics. Might want to look into it.

Build a 3d engine and then replace all vec3 with vec4, should go 4d if you did it right.

>>9
Yeah, I can confirm that.

>>6
What alternative do you suggest?

>>7
Agreedo on the vagueness, but he's not wrong. OO is awesome for understanding programs but most of the time it's not the fastest.

Fine. We can build a game engine in ASM and eat taco-cats whilst we do so!

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-23 18:59

cuties
do i look like a touhou to you

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-23 19:02

>>12
Yeah

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-23 19:04

>>13
i'm flattered but sadly i'm not one

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-23 19:26

>>14
That's okay, maybe someday

Do you want to have hardcore gay sex with me?

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-23 19:42

>>16
That's gay, dude.

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-23 20:01

>>17
It's only as gay as this thread has turned and OP.

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-23 20:05

>>16
No, softcore only.

>>18
Yeah I'm pretty much the gayest.

Anyone know a good open source engine I can look at? I know, I can just google, but I can't tell which ones are worthwhile.

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-23 20:27

>>19
I would suggest the ID Engine.

Also, I totes luv ur shoes!

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-23 20:53

Thanks, and for the compliment as well.

I like your dick. Can I suck it?

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-24 0:56

what kind of language would be best if I want to make a engine for a tactics game ala Tactics Ogre: LuCT?

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-24 0:59

You just need to prefer tears over women and you'll know.

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-24 1:13

I remember seeing a thread recently about Component Entity systems with some actually useful info, check that out.

As for languages, I'd say C++, or C# if you're using Unity (which is pretty good).

And problem solved once again. Thread over.

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-24 1:41

>>26
Everyone just use C++ and C#, programming solved, board over.

>>25
Thanks, I'll try to find it.

>>22
No, thank u tho.

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-24 1:56

>>26
No problem is ever solved. You just loose sight of further improvement.

>>27
If you think C++ and C# are all there is to know of programming languages, I don't know what to say. Kindly kill yourself on the way out.

I was joking, so no thanks.

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-24 2:07

Blasphemy of that scale is no joke, you stupid fucking goy. Show some respect to those that engineered the luxuries you cattle are allowed to enjoy.

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-24 2:13

>>30
Thanks, I'll remember that next time.

Name: Anonymous 2013-07-24 2:20

ok, you've made me laugh. I apologize for using bad language towards you.
