programming noob

I've been into making games for a while now and i've come to the conclusion i need to be at least an average programmer to make what i want.
i've been doing some web design for a while now to get me started and want to move onto the hardcore shit like C++ and C# but i've got no idea where to start.

I've got quite a lot of experience in UDK and Unity, both of which use C++ and C#, but which would better suit me? and how can i go about starting? I was thinking just using Lynda but are their courses really any good?

Cheers fellas.
