The problem is that they got lazy and started monitoring everyone in the hope that they'll get something useful. That's a really bad idea because the surveillance data can easily fall into the wrong hands. And of course, it's all pointless since the people they're looking for are probably encrypting/anonymizing their stuff anyway.

How did they do their job 100 years ago? They had to do some actual field detective work and follow around the people they were actually interested in to determine the social graph and whatnot. Putting all that information into computers is a good thing because it's environmentally-friendly; relying on computers to do all the fucking work is lazy and dumb and typical of the spoiled retarded brats that are currently working for the USA intelligence agencies.

Goddamn kids think technology is the answer to everything.
