Programming Jobs

Name: Anonymous 2013-06-13 20:38

I've never had a job, and most of the formal education I've received absolutely sucks, but I've spent years programming and I've become fairly decent at it. As you'd probably expect from a fellow /prog/rider, the only languages I really use on a daily basis are C and Lisp, so some kind of work using those languages would be ideal for me (but I guess there's no harm in learning other languages, right?)

Anyway, I'm wondering if any one could spare some advice on how I'd start making money with programming.

Find out about becoming a contractor for embedded software engineering companies?

Also, if you know Lisp and C fairly well, picking up another language like Javascript or Ruby along with Rails should be relatively trivial.

I recommend you apply to as many places as you can. If you're prepared to relocate, something will work out from the experience you have with C and Lisp alone. Surely somebody sees potential there.

Web languages are the easiest way to employment at the moment.
