``Document markup'' languages

I need some efficient, quick and simple way to enter advanced mathematical formulae in between text (that can be nicely formatted), is LaTeX a nice way to do it? Please recommend me something decent.

i fail to see how \pi or a^b_c + \int_{5}^{\sigma} f(x) dx is a pain in the ass

for simple formulae, latex is the same shit as tex, and if op is making this question, i'm sure as hell he's not using complex formulae
