All programmers work on hobby projects. "Open source" gets everybody excited.
Linux is a monstrosity, however. We all learned on Apple ][s and C64s. Do you
remember those... when programming was fun, instead of overwhelming and
depressing? Do you remember editing disk blocks and poking hardware? Do you
remember changing video memory so the screen showed flashing live dumps of
memory?
It's my computer. The way I play with my computer is I poke around at anything
I want. It's like a car and I like to get under the hood. Thanks, but I don't
need a lock on the hood. Linux is like a modern car engine with no user
serviceable parts, but SparrowOS is like a simple 60's engine.... and,
incidentally, it has lots of raw horsepower, too. It actually outperforms Linux
or Windows, but that's silly. Obviously, bare metal outperforms anything else.
It's not bare metal but identity-mapping and ring-0-only are superior
performance -- you cannot argue, if you know what they mean. No privilege level
changes and no memory map penalties is optimal.
