TeX

I learned TeX about twenty years ago. Now I want TeX, but I don't need all the bells and whistles of LaTeX.

Where can I get TeX? I am running Debian. It only has TeX Live packages, and even the base packages are rather large. I just want TeX with Computer Modern so I can make TeX documents and output them to DVI (and optionally PS or PDF).

I have searched the Stanford FTP but I have no idea what's going on.
Please tell me where I can find TeX.

Why don't you use troff -ms?

The enormously bloated -- and excellent -- GNU Groff distribution is 3 MB -- about 1/100 the average LaTeX installation!

Plan 9's is under a megabyte and still excellent.
