From zero to Tetris in C over an hour.

Name: Anonymous 2012-10-23 16:05

Some guy goes from a fresh install of XP in a virtual machine,
through downloading and installing MinGW and a favorite text editor,
through drawing blocks in Paint and writing a resource script,
through making a do-nothing window in C with the basic Win32 API,
through displaying a block and making it react to keypresses,
through adding natural gravity and line clearing:
ending up with a functional skeleton of a Tetris game.
In just over an hour.

Also, he's Japanese. And this video has half a million views.

I will never understand why the Japs are so in love with Windows.

What's so special about it?

because Microsoft actually bothers to document their software (including development tools) painstakingly in all major world languages, unlike the open source community

They document how to do everything but how to attain electronic freedom.

I can never get nicovideos to play. At best I get either the comments scrolling around or an ad at the bottom, but no video or sound. I vaguely recall it working once a few years ago, but never since.

My configuration isn't anything weird. Every other site works just fine. Just to be sure I tested on a clean VM with a few different browsers - no luck. Japanese proxy - nope, no dice.

Not bad, only 76 symbols long. Should fit a terminal line leaving four spaces for indentation.

They document it, but considering the amount of errors I've encountered just in the English D3D9 documentation, I don't think it's being done "painstakingly".

Any translation from Hindi into such a clumsy language as English is bound to have a few errors.

Name: Anonymous 2012-10-24 17:30

The default language is English.

You are full of shit.

I don't think ``default'' means what you think it means.
Hint: It doesn't mean the same thing as ``original''.
