My campaign of being a dick

So /prog/, I come to you with something I've been wondering.

Now, I'm sure you've all heard of Tor's Hammer. It's a DoS tool that runs through TOR, using exit nodes to bitchslap websites. It works pretty well, but some sites have TOR nodes blocked.

So I figured...just take the same principle and send it through a bunch of proxy servers. It's easy enough to grab as list of proxies from the net, run them through an automated checker (in about four lines of bash) and using awk spit them formatted into proxychains.conf. Make sure you have proxychains configured to use a random chain, seeing as it's just for DDoS set the length of the chain to only 1, etc. You don't DoS the proxy as you're only sending one connection through each one. I know, proxychains probably randomly sends more than one through each, but when you have a list of over 9000 proxies who gives a fuck.

Thing is this. I'm basically using a loop to fire off wget queries. First problem...they run sequentially instead of consecutively. Easy enough, just add an & on the end of each line and the loop will power through setting each as a background process. Thing is, I don't really know any way of rate limiting this, and so I end up just fork-bombing myself if I set it to fire too many threads. I'm wondered if any of you EXPERT PROGRAMMERS know any easy way round this. I thought maybe nice might be something I could use to limit what the processes could do...but I'm not sure if that will affect sub-processes if I apply it to the bash script.

Maybe I should use something like netcat instead to open the connections? Should I wait until the counter is at a certain level?  Maybe ps aux|grep and see how many of wget or netcat are running? Not all threads fired succeed, due to the nature of the proxies being unreliable. I mean, I do test them beforehand but you know how fleeting some can be...

Maybe I should actually learn socket programming but in all honesty I don't even know if you can do that kind of low level stuff in bash. Plus, I'm not likely to have the time or inclination to do so any time soon.

Actually, typing this post up has made me think a little. I'm guessing I set a number of connections I consistently want, then keep grepping to see if that many instances of netcat are open or not. If less because some have timed out, fire some more.

Also, when it comes to LOIC and all that closed-source stuff (or TBH any flooder) I've noticed that they tend to flood the actual site. Sometimes though, you get lucky and the DNS servers have port 80 open too, in which case you can own the shit out of them by just DDoSing the nameserver, which means obviously no one can reach them. Actually, the way that attack works, I'm sure it was used in some of the bank takedowns, as they were responding in the same way (not just refusing connection/not found, but timing out).

I guess hammering port 53 with connections on their DNS server would be a good way of going about it. But yeah...I've seen sites I can't take down via hammering the main site, but can take down by fucking with the DNS server.

I know all you guys are real programmers, and I'm just a scripty, but I don't really have anyone else to talk to about this stuff so thought I'd post here.
