This tells me he's ignorant. He doesn't understand why having a baby is a big deal and it doesn't matter how crowded the earth becomes with people. Evolutionary psychology explains why this is so.
He's just stating his opinion.
I care about earth and humanity. I am aware of the various overpopulation problems. I am also aware of the link between standard of living and population growth. I would guess that: 1) he isn't aware of the links or 2) he knows but he feels the best solution is by telling people, "people should stop reproducing". I know a better way that works with human psychology that will result in slower population growth.
