I'm a BSD user, and I actually do use youtube-dl to download videos instead of watching them in my browser. The reason for this is that YouTube's servers apparently don't have enough upload bandwidth to stream 1080p video reliably, and that YouTube's flash-based player is a steaming pile of shit.
