first job interview today, looking for advice

Name: Anonymous 2012-06-12 22:52

I have a question/problem /prog/. So I spent my high school/ college years dicking around and generally being a problem. Getting parking tickets and not paying them, getting jobs (menial retail shit jobs) and then deciding one day im not going to show up any more, got a credit card and made late/shitty payments, just general being a bum. I now have my CS degree and had my first interview today and it seems like they're going to do an extensive background check. They go as far as to use an outsourced company to do the background check. My question is this /prague/, can any middle/upper management people tell me if this makes me unhireable? Im getting nervous.

I doubt you're unhirable. I get plenty of job offers and I don't even have a CS degrees. Companies are desperate for programmers right now.

P.S. Every company outsources background checks.

Well if it was CE...Now CS you might be fucked, depends on the field, company, location, not paying tickets and being is not exactly what they are more concerned about when doing background checks

You're not unhirable, you'll just be undesirable. How do you think you'll be compared to someone who isn't a habitual asshat?

You'll be fine. If they don't hire you it'll be nothing to do with the background check, unless you're applying for a position in a financial institution. Really the background check is to pick up more serious stuff, and you can always explain in the next interview if they raise any of it.
