I'm an Engineer at a small company which means we don't have any real software engineers. This means the few people who know some programming can take on whatever programming tasks need to be done. I only make $45,000 right now, but I get to choose whatever language I want to work in. I mostly program in C because most of the programs I write take a long time to execute. I do fuck around in Perl and Lisp though. The pay isn't as high as I can get else where but I actually enjoy going to work.

if you want moe monay you can always look for another job while working. That's the most enjoyable way to do it because there's no desperation on your side. And pay varies with location. But monay aint everything. Job satisfaction and general pleasantness is important too.
It's a tolerable salary in my shit town. I wish I could make 4x that amount writing Haskell, but there's no position like that in my shit country and I'm too much of a coward to run my own business.
i have a two year degree in "general art" and almost 3 years of work experience
