Oh, you're talking about the benefits. (Why did you quote that part of my post?) When you say divide-and-conquer, are you talking about the social aspects or minorities multiplying (or both)? Social progress is supposed to be a Good Thing™. Cultures with backwards views don't really get accepted, so that's not really an issue. Religion is the problem here. As for minorities multiplying, it's not necessarily bad. Depends on what they're like I guess :p.
I agree about the conflict, but I think that's mostly due to religion, and I say this because of the high number of cases.
