Hey /prog/,

The project manager at my work recommended that I read Head First Design Patterns.
Should I take him up on it, or should I shove a cudder down his throat and tell him to read SICP?

Here's a single argument for you: design patterns establish a common language amongst developers. So when talking to fellow developers at work, instead of having to describe problems in tedious explanations (i.e. "I got these objects with properties X and behaviour Y doing Z, while interacting with U, ..." and so on), you can get straight to the point. Software development in a team requires a lot of communication. Design patterns help you avoid describing the reinvention of the wheel all the time to your peers. Come to think of it, a basement dwelling hobby coder like yourself has no need for design patterns.
