I intend to work on some sort of self made storage protocol that will allow me to send data and save it to another machine over the internet, but haven't the faintest clue where to begin or how to code protocols?

does /prog/ have any internet resource for learning this type of thing?

why don't you use one that already exists? That way you can piggy back the encryption, rather than not having it, or reinventing something that can be broken easily?

I see. Learn how to do udp. Learn how to do tcp. Learn about how they work, and what their trade offs are. Start with something simple, like an echo client, and then step it up to transmitting large files split up in chunks. For plusplusplusness make it a peer to peer network with n seeders and m downloaders, and implement the bit torrent protocol.

and for super plus plusness make it secure using encryption.
