For the enterprise, you need to master the language of kissing ass, the language of discussing golf around the watercooler, the language of backstabbing, etc.

C, Java and Lisp are the three best languages for Enterprise work.

I you have to do IT-related ENTERPRISE work and no one forces a language down your throat, Perl will help you do anything.

Is not the BEST language for all kind of tasks, but is the best for simple (and not that simple) chores.

Codemonkey jobs? C# and Java.

Lower languages like C/C++ and ASM are used widely in large, top-tier projects (i.e., ones that make good money). You should know C/C++ and ASM and be very proficient. When oil runs out and the dollar is devalued, hardware won't be cheap, so don't expect your shitty Java bloatware to cut it in the future.
