Where is this from? It seems very familiar to me, but I can't place it.

On very slow boards, old threads used to get marked for deletion after a week or more of being around. This was around 2006-2007 or so.
I have no idea when it got removed, but I do know that threads on /jp/ can even last 2+ weeks if kept alive (bumped, but lower than 300 posts, otherwise bump limit is hit, and the thread can't be bumped anymore), which would mean that the "feature" got removed.

I think >>1 is trying to making a bad joke about /prog/ being old, but that's hardly an issue: many Usenet groups are over 30 years old and still alive and active, and /prog/ is hardly that old.

It's what happens when enough people post with the special email ``sage''.  Doing so increments a counter that when it hits an unspecified value will prevent a thread from further disrupting discussion and will eventually fall off the board.

This doesn't happen any more because a new rule was added against mass-saging.

As far as I can remember, it had nothing to do with that, and everything to do with postcount and thread age.

Stop pushing this thread down with your sages (sage means the poster is buttangery).

I see. I don't know what the reference for me was. I've used markForDeletion as a method name before, so maybe it was just that.

Get out.

Name: Anonymous 2012-01-09 12:23

``Get out'' means the poster is from /jp/.

Name: Anonymous 2012-01-09 13:14

>>9
Unix-style ``quotes'' mean this poster is from /prog/.

Name: Anonymous 2012-01-09 13:34

>>10
Saying ``Unix style ``quotes'''' means this poster doesn't know his TeX.

Name: Anonymous 2012-01-09 14:32

>>11
Saying ``TeX'' means you haven't read the original ASCII specification.

well you know, when using a language for massive faggots, one must do what the massive faggots do.

I've only seen this on Futallaby-based boards, so I don't know if it's a ``feature'' carried over from the original Futaba script, or thatdog added it in.
