Due to some circumstances i have now a extra pentium dual core.
I was considering making a Linux box, but if it works fine i'll consider using it as my main box(and to ensure my apps run on linux too) and using this box for web/entertainment.
However there some apps which may not work(the list is incomplete, but these are most important):
Digital Mars C Compiler (used often)
ImgBurn(needs wine)
Irfanview(needs Wine)
Notepad2(whoever tries to tell me about vi*m or e*macs again will ignored:there is /e*macs|vi*m/ text filter on the shiichan filter i use)
(I'll consider using something like geany/gedit if it can be customized to plain, minimum plugin look like like notepad2:however the main advantage of notepad2 is low memory use and high speed)
2xExplorer(all Linux alternatives are quite slow(except some console tree/folder listers) and don't compare to a 500kb app which can load and display 50k files at once graphically)
Pixia(something like GIMP is too bloated and interface is too painful to work around)
Some of console emulators are windows only, but i'll check whats available.
Neuro Programmer 3
Wingroove(quality midi synth)
Teleport Pro(can be replaced by wget functionally)
Keynote(text database app)
Arena(chess gui)
there is 75gb space on the HD, so no bloatware.

10 segfaults today. Bloated C++ KDE apps leaking all my memory.
I can't change anything without verifying my root password
The only good thing it detects the integrated GMA video perfectly and loads in 1920x1080. Still no sound.

Use Windows. Nobody gives a shit. Your code is shit and you'll never write anything that anybody with ever want to use, so stick with your shitty toy development environment and get an early start on your ``hello world 2012'' project.

I also have tcc, gcc,PellesC,Watcom and lcc, Ghc,strawberry prolog,freebasic,purebasic,Dmd2.053,Clay,LLVM,Fasm,Mlton,Objective Caml,Free Pascal, but these have linux equivalents.

For the record, i have tried emacs,Notepad++,vim,ed,metapad, geany, notepadPlus and countless other editors but notepad2 is most usable longterm. I could certainly write a better editor, though this is not a priority now.

You also have autism and can't code your way out of wet piece of toilet paper. 10 segfaults today
Maybe you should stay away from pointers and stick with a toy language better suited to your toy projects.

FTFY.

Your disk is corrupted. The only time I ever got a segfault on a GNU/Linux binary is when I dd'd over a disk image while running it in a virtual machine.

After the tenth i've restarted and that computer is running the xp install, though its not connected to internet.
I'll keep the DVD just in case.

I'll check how the recent FreeBSD works there(i've heard they're now usable for daily desktop use and much more stable). Currently downloading dvd image for 8.2(i have some old OpenBSD/FreeBSD cds lying somewhere, but they're hopelessly outdated)

So? If I had to make a bet between Linux's reputation for stability and some Windows XP spyware bundle's reputation for correctness, I'm probably gonna go with Linux.

Have fun. Just remember that minimalist Unices like Gentoo and FreeBSD are only stable when they've been configured properly. The minute you install xorg, some window manager, a boatload of desktop apps, and start running stuff without loading the proper modules, it becomes very easy to crash the system.

Oh look, turns out frozenvoid had not a clue at what he's doing when it comes to computers and is also a shitty programmer.
But we already knew this by now, now go fuck off.

>strawberry prolog
What are you using it for?

Mainly to test its speed as "slow as snails language" using various publicly available prolog algorithms.
Its not using for writing apps, and if i was writing an expert system, it would not be using prolog.

I believe you about the segfaults. I tested the latest stable openSUSE (stable, that's a laugh). Just using a few regular KDE applications in the live environment was enough to produce segfaults. The quality of this software is abysmal.

Its not what great features Notepad2 has(It has nothing unique), but more what it does not have.
It does not crashes.
It does not leak memory
It does not require hundreds of MB of ram per process
There is no lag, latency or delays
In short it has best performance for its class, while taking very little memory and having all the common editing features of more complex editors.

Hi FrozenVoid, I'm yourself from the past. I travelled to the future just to ask you to quit programming and get a live, or you'll end complaining about how much Gentoo segfaults.
Please follow my own sane advice before it's too late.

>I'm yourself from the past.
I would have left a note, a post-it note, a wiki node(i have a personal wiki), a text file, which i would later read.
The concept of having to travel to the future to deliver information from the past is mildly retarded.
