Technology made humanity what it is. The media, control structures, transport and agriculture are integral to the condition of humanity,
without which humanity would quickly die out, since it cannot support itself without help of modern technology(the collapse which preserves some less-recent but more adaptable technology leaves more room for this).
Even recent stuff such as internet, could stall economies if turned off.
