What language should I learn first?

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-05 12:36

I'm pretty much new to this. I want to code mainly for video games and such.

Also please, don't argue about which language is better than which, numbers speak louder than words.
If there are any recommended guides or ways of learning the languages you suggest, please note them as well. Thank-you /prog/

Lisp is inadequate for making games. It's great for learning the functional paradigm which will make you a better programmer in general, but in practice it's not the most useful language for any applications other than number crunching.

C with SDL is good once you've mastered C, but that will take months if not years depending on how smart you are and how well you understand programming in general.

Python with Pygame is hands down the easiest and fastest way to make games and it's a great language to learn from, so I'd start with that if I were you.
