Love Shack OS and Worm++

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-04 4:05

So this crazy guy made his own moonshine OS and programming language, and it is full of crazy. Poor guy actually has some talent, but he's possibly schitzophrenic, possibly autistic, and definitely full of drugs.

/g/ and /x/ have already seen this, and both agreed that what is this I don't even, and wat, and even my head is full of fuck.
The OS is designed to rewrite your DNA and turn you into an immortal space god and cure cancer. And really, who wants to be a space god with cancer?
Note: you probably don't want to smoke what he's smoking, but if you follow his recipe for magic banana bong dust, please note that "Mace" means the covering of the nutmeg plant and not what the nice police man gave you a face full of at the Occupy Wall Street thing.

I forgot to add that "mdr_tsr" is actually the guy who created LSOS:

Everyone who writes an OS in the 21st century is fucked up in the head.

What could it possibly mean?

Writing an OS is not "hacking for fun" in any way, shape or form.

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-04 7:47

>>10
that is a very subjective statement
some people might get a kick out of working out how to write a bootloader in NASM and then a getting used writing in C with no libc

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-04 7:48

implying people contribute to HaikuOS, SyllableOS, MenuetOS, OpenPandora because they have mental disorders

So this is the source that's been shitting up /prog/ lately.

``mbr_tsr'' as in (probably) master boot record _ terminate and stay resident.

He doesn't seem particularly crazy after a few google and web archive checks. The crazy angle is the new shtick for toy OS writers it seems, but is it giving a good return on investment.

I'll have to explain: "hacking for fun" is about using existing tools and interface to quickly write hacks.
Writing an OS is slow and cumbersome process to design an interface and tools to use it.
Its like arguing that building entire house with powertools by yourself is fun, compared to redesigning a small part you don't like.

OS on the desktop form factor isn't fun because it is an inherently political space, caused by the natural monopolistic nature of being an OS, that bullies out any hope for mutual dev and user fun in it, especially more now than when Linux first came onto the scene. OS is born out of human necessities which are not just technical but also deeply held cultural concepts of control and freedom more than any other piece of software in existence.

Homebrew OS development in the embedded space is much more appreciated and viable because of the non-specificity of human machine interface and the technical simplicity similar to 1980s and 1990s home computers that rarely inherit shit for the sake of backwards compatibility. The drawback here is that the only people that will appreciate it are other hardware tinkerers and some niche like modded game consoles.

Hacking is about making clever solutions to interesting problems. You hack things for the pleasure of engaging the mind or for the reward of getting things done. Writing a functional OS is indeed slow and cumbersome, but that doesn't make the process of hacking software any less fun.

Name: Anonymous 2011-11-04 9:22

sorry programming is only fun if you are optimizing a javascript algorithm that works only on firefox only at certain window sizes

I'm not delivering a software product to you. It runs for me and its "hacking for fun".
If you want try version @ http://dis.4chan.org/read/prog/1319817001/163 Which forces canvas size to desktop size.

I too, would like to contribute a fuck.

So does this actually function as an OS, will it run shit you need, or is it just a pile of random word generators, video effects, crazytalk text and a platform game?

You can easily run this FreeDOS-based OS wit h a pretty shell in a VM and the language compiler should work on it.
