Anyone know Java awt and swing well?

I am trying to program in java a background image with tranparent images over the top. I have had a look on the java forums and layered pane helps etc and still can't seem to make sence of how to do it.

I am using the class ImageIcon for the images as this is easier than buffered image or toolkit. I need a nice simple program, all ones I have found are stupidly complicated or have scrollpanes which I don't want!

If anyone could help it would be much apprecated.

Have you tried AbstractImageIconScrollFactoryInjector?
