all these useless HTTP requests, a lot of them seem to be simply
for tracking who you are. there has to be a better way to
browse /prog/. what do you think?

i was thinking either one of two things:

1- write a simply HTTP proxy to anonymize your webtraffic by
filtering out certain things (<script>'s, cookies).

2- write a scraper/user interface for /prog/ using RACKET

It's your own responsibility to block tracking sites and cookies, it's not that hard.

I just learned how to use the spoiler tag, and now I'm shitposting on pork!

I just have the tracking shit blocked in the HOSTS file.

It's called NoScript.

You shouldn't be running a "security" extension created by a dipshit known to for his malicious hack against a competing extension[1].

I just disable Javascript in the browser configuration directly. Much safer.

For personal reasons, I do not browse the web from my computer.  (I also have not net connection much of the time.)  To look at page I send mail to a demon which runs wget and mails the page back to me.
It is very efficient use of my time, but it is slow in real time.

Is that some kind of script that ties 4chan posts to your email client?

It's the one you wrote. If you can't you don't belong here. Back to /g/ with you.

Probably a RSS-to-Usenet converter. It scrapes /prog/RSS and sends Usenet messages to local server.

It's just an NNTP frontend to a progscrape database.

In writing it I learned that NNTP is a shit protocol and a shit representation of a medium where all messages are 2-3 words long.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-07 15:45

>>32
so what would be a better protocol for a /prog/ style medium?

You don't recognise newsgroup posts? `NNTP' didn't give it away?

...why are you on the programming board again?

Name: VIPPER 2011-10-07 16:14

Why are you asking yourself?
It implies you already know the answer, in which case the question is pointless.
Or, you dont know the answer, in that your question is absolutely pointless.

use abp+noscript and block half those shitty requests

Firefox? Too bloated and slow. Currently I'm using Curl.

GET REQUEST POLICY AND THAT OTHER THING ..Ghostery at least... for blocking tracking requests.

Name: FrozenVoid 2011-10-08 3:43

>>35
I use a simpler whitelist system:
Every site is Blocked in NoScript/Adblock/RequestPolicy. Each file is inspected and allowed to run only after i see it as integral to site functionality. There just 3k exceptions in the whitelist now. If i used a blacklist system, there would be much more:i tend to block 99% of content.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-08 4:26

>>37
Request Policy is enough, it blocks the request. Ghostery is just spyware bullshit.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-08 4:35

I don't really know, but the best I've used for browsing /prog/ was a 4chan extension or Greasemonkey script that fetched subject.txt and displayed thread links sorted by last reply, and it tracked unread threads.

Hm, I found the code again, and now I remember that it's pretty slow ...
