Starting Common Lisp

I've been interested in the World of Lisp lately.
Searching around I found a couple of common lisp implementations (CLISP, GNU LISP and SBCL).
What tools and implementations does /prog/ use?

Emacs has a special lisp mode, what's /prog/'s opinion on it?
