When developing an operating system for PC's, you can:

A) Get other people to write drivers, like Windows or Linux.

B) Limit to certain supported hardware, like Apple.

C) Stick to common denominator hardware, like LoseThos.

D) Delusionally expect that other people will write drivers, like these guys, http://wiki.osdev.org/Projects.

This guy is amazing.

Writing driver support is the hardest part of any OS. Especially with closed source drivers.
Some kind of windows emulation layer must be present if you can't afford that.

I hated the arcade game, Dragon's Lair, the first laserdisc game, because it played a movie, like a choose-you-own adventure book, instead of calculating images.  A programmer, alone, can make a game, but can't compete with teams including artists and sound studios.  An artist can't make a game.
I'm not an expert on autism so I have to ask how does this count as motivation for making an OS?

Let me explain -- once, I did a Windows game and learned I could not simply play frequencies and waveforms for sound very easily.  The MFC API is built for playing WAV files.  Shit! I don't own a 1930's recording studio!  Similarly, games are often rail car movies, not old-school calculated images.

It's obvious his previous boss/job drove him towards a mental breakdown forcing him to become a recluse. I know, because it happened to me. I haven't fully recovered yet, still living off of savings renting a basement apartment in the bad part of town for super cheap. Fortunately, unlike him, I was able to recognize that the voices in my head weren't God, I was just experiencing a psychotic break which eventually subsided after a few week.
