If gets() is so dangerous and should never be used,

Why was it created in first place and kept in the C standard until now?

Just to render it clearer, the C compiler backends just generate better machine code than other language's, which doesn't mean that they generate _good_ machine code at all.

And newer technology with just-in-time machine code compilation is promising to break this myth out and for once. Unfortunately, I have had few contact with such languages to know whether it is reality or just another market turnaround hype.
