what does enterprise mean?

Could anyone tell me what people are trying to say when they say something is enterprise? I don't get why this word is thrown around so much on job ads and development platforms and such. Is there a difference between something that is enterprise and something that is not enterprise?

It's a software industry buzzword just like "open" but with the opposite connotation. It's for business-oriented types who associate open software with low quality, consumer software with medium quality, and enterprise software with high quality. It's usually very expensive custom software or normal software with a very expensive SLA.
