I'd like to start this. Any other programmers here interested? I intend to have us work on a common project and keep in touch. Form a real company by and by.

Default Re: WW WN Computer Programmer's club
Maybe I should elaborate. I'm a professional senior programmer. I could be project leader for a group of WN programmers. I know there are some out there. How to lure the spirit out of the bottle... Play the magic flute? I'm serious about this. I've seen other initiatives like this come to nothing and I've learned from it. We need leadership and personal contact; we also need to organize the work, map the skills of each member and assign realistic tasks.
Much has been discussed concerning what kind of program to make and which programming language to use. We should start out with a simple project that can be completed fast. The emphasis is on organizing WNs, not on creating the program of all time. And it doesn't matter if there exist such programs already. We should choose the language and tools most suitable for the job.
We could start with an anonymizer, for instance: A web service to surf anonymously. On the server side I suggest Perl. On the client side we should try to manage with javascript if possible. I have a web site, we can implement it there.
With more complicated projects we'll begin using C++. I have several ambitious projects up my sleeve. We'll distribute our programs widely, and they will give us power and money. Good for the movement. Remember: Most things in contemporary society are governed by computer programs. There's power in it!

What experience level / qualifications are you looking for? Expected time commitment at outset?

This seasoned geek is very keen on projects that would realize a few $$'s here and there. Talents:
Linux (many distros), KDE, Gnome other GUI's.
UNIX (DGux, HPux, some Sun, AT&T Sys V, AIX, others)
*nix sysadm stuff, some scripting, samba, shell(s), utility creation
*nix <-> real world interfacing
K&R/ANSI 'C' mostly under *nix
HTML, a bit of PHP, MySQL on hosted domain space
OpenSource CMS (some Joomla, e107, WordPress, Concrete5)
Graphic manipulation
Digital audio, audio editing
Troubleshooting, SW defect and regression testing
My most recent fascination was thinking about privately-hosted MMORPG engines & custom clients (a la 'Second Life') specifically targeted towards the WN/WR community. Less frivolous, more socio-political SIMS-ish, possibly even AI-ish. Likely pay-to-play but with a reasonably priced subscription cost.
PM or open discussion here. Would have lots of time to devote @ sub-minimum wage rates.
Might even be able to provide domain space.
