Why LISP gets hated on

Name: Anonymous 2011-07-05 5:32

I think it's because it doesn't do what we want it to do and its syntax is hard to get your head around. Different programming languages have different purposes. You can't just say a programming language sucks because eg: The looping commands are so damn complicated. Maybe its complicated because maybe the looping was meant to be complicated so it can solve more problems with regard to looping. LISP isn't the best programming language out there but don't hate on it because it won't do what you want it to.

You're an idiot.

I really hope that when you faggots apply for you very first job, the interviewer asks you a question about Lisp, or else you'll never pass the interview. Too bad they won't, because nobody outside of this goddamn board gives a flying fuck about Lisp, especially professionals. Enjoy learning new way to write Fibonacci generators in your mom's basement, faggots.

What looping commands? Also, commands? Really?

It already does everything I want it to do and the syntax is quite simple. Just thinking about Perl, Haskell or Ruby's syntax gives me a headache.

You're not cut out for programming, kid.  Go play with your toys.

I bet I written more real world programs than you.

syntax is hard to get your head around

syntax is hard to get your eyes around.

semantics is hard to get your head around.

when will people know the difference?

I'm a language snob and I've applied for lots of programming jobs and never NOT gotten an offer. Yes I often mention high-level programming, even if the job is to write C++. I just then talk about language implementation strategies.

At any rate, "the real world" of programming is not some paradise where guys "actually get stuff done." All programming industries are in AWFUL condition. Most professional programmers are more concerned with job security than doing a good job. I highly suspect most of the time that most professional code is so terrible so that the writers can secure their job position maintaining it.

The professional programming world is fucked up and unproductive. That's why I debate on internet forums as to how to fix it. I think Lisp is in the right general direction, but there are social problems as well as technical.

Lisp is in the right direction if you are a homosexual propagandist.
