oDesk

I am a student programmer who wants to make some money. What do you think about oDesk? Is it possible to get some cash without having a portfolio of 100 large projects. I do have some projects to show potential buyers but nothing very fancy. What are your experiences and opinions?

I work on oDesk. Seems better in pay than vWorker (formerly RAC). Best of your is to get your own clients.

I work on vWorker. You'd be surprised how easy is it to get a job. The pay is not something that can sustain me, but if I am going to write shitty bots, I might as well get paid for it.

Definitely look at oDesk. I've worked on vWorker for an extended period of time and I can tell you that oDesk has a much better model. Have you been through an arbitration on vWorker yet? - NB: I didn't loose any arbs, but it's still a huge pain. - Same goes for their fees.

I know vWorker has introduced a pay-for-time concept as well now, but oDesk simply had this for much longer, their software is nicer, it doesn't require a webcam, and buyers are used to working with it. If you want long-term work and don't want to bid over and over for each new job, definitely go with oDesk.
