Yet another knowledge base, not capable of seeking patterns and making relations between data? Also, why these thinks always work with simple text and never with audio-visual data?

why these things

You know, just thinking about it, if either of these approaches - knowledge bases and pattern and relation seekers like >>3 suggested actually worked efficiently - worked, then why are we still having arguments like this?  You'd think one would show promise over the other when instead they both just look rather mediocre in general.

Don't get me wrong, you need knowledge base. The question is how it's filled, what structure it has and what initial content it should include.

bsically, megaHAL's knowledge base just've wrong structure, incapable of describing reality.

"Mathematics as a purely formal system of symbols without a human being possessing the know-how for dealing with the symbols is impossible [according to the chemist Polanyi (1969, 195), the ideal of a form of knowledge that is strictly explicit is contradictory because without tacit knowledge all formulas, words, and illustrations would become meaningless]" (Breger 2000:229).
