The thing I don't like about TIOBE is that it compares differences against the same month from a year ago, it doesn't track month-to-month differences, at least not as far as I see.

There's no stopping Lisp's rise.

I want to believe.

What is Lisp though? I assume they're talking about Common Lisp.

Name: Anonymous 2011-04-11 11:26

Too bad no one actually uses Lisp for anything practical or useful.

Name: Anonymous 2011-04-11 11:53

What the fuck, Pascal is ranked lower than Lisp??

Name: Anonymous 2011-04-11 12:33

But Delphi still resists.

SUDDENLY
AUTISM!

Ratings
The ratings are calculated by counting hits of the most popular search engines. The search query that is used is

Really? That's absolutely fucking ridiculous.

That's so dumb.

That or Racket, no ?

I'm pretty sure Racket counts towards the Scheme rating.

Name: Anonymous 2011-04-11 16:25

lol PowerBasic above Haskell

I'm presuming that this big linear section is because it was out of the top 20 for that long and they wanted a continuous line?

Name: Anonymous 2011-04-11 17:09

lol @ asm over Lisp

Name: Anonymous 2011-04-11 17:25

>>22
As well it should be.

Name: Anonymous 2011-04-11 18:02

The only thing I find remotely surprising about these ratings is that C is so far ahead of C++ and I'm a die-hard C-tard

Assembly languages are still widely used by people optimizing for SIMD vectorization, which accounts for anything multi-media related. Digital signal processing, video and audio codecs, video games, high-performance computation, etc.

Lisp, well not so much.

It shouldn't be so surprising when you realize that most Linux and *BSD software, from the kernel up to user-mode applications, are written in C.

There's Qt/KDE which is C++, but that's like it man. I would expect C++ to increase a bit due to C++11 and Java to drop more over the coming years, but it will probably still be the case that Java > C > C++ 5 years from now, in popularity.

Name: Anonymous 2011-04-11 18:55

I surprised Delphi is still in the top 20.

It looks ugly as Pascal. What kind of faggot would like to use these obsolete languages anyway?

The same who would do scat and copro, if it pays.

A study of 164 male Java programmers from two enterprise companies[4] found that 99.2% had engaged in coprophilia; 30% as a sadist, 41% as a masochist, and 28.2% as both. 81% of heterosexuals and 71% of homosexuals in the study pool had tried scatophilia.

Name: Anonymous 2011-04-11 20:00

In a separate article,[5] a subset of 12 men from that study who engaged in C# was analyzed and found that 54.5% of the 12 men had engaged in coprophilic behaviors, compared with only 8.3% of 12 of the men who did not engage in C# who matched up logically with each of the 12 who did.

In soviet russia people like you are treated by punitive psychiatry. Because they're broken. Not the system.

Name: Anonymous 2011-04-12 3:04

The TIOBE ranking method is so ridiculously fucking broken, I don't know why people look at them at all.
Aren't there rankings based on actual data, like job postings and surveys and such?

Name: Anonymous 2011-04-12 3:16

>>39
Yeah! You can easily find an Assembly, Erlang, Forth and Lisp jobs. No need pigwashing with Java.
