SICP is a great educational book. "Educational" is the operative word. It teaches you the fundamental things that set you on the path to become a real computer scientist, but doesn't make you become one on its own. What makes you become one is your intelligence and effort.

To say that you became an expert by reading SICP is like saying that you became a theoretical physicist by reading a book on theoretical physics. No matter how awesome the book is, you can't be right.
