Computer Science People

Why is it that in today's world Computer Science in college or university seems to be the drain for socially awkward, ugly, or just plain crazy people?
The computer scientists of the early days look like charismatic supermodels (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKfKtXYLG78) compared to the crapule I sometimes see in my CS classes. In the west the enrollment of people in Computer Science has been decreasing since the 90's. Enrollment of women in computer science has been decreasing even worse.(http://www.cssu-bg.org/WomenInCS/Pictures/widening_gap.gif) and I think it's all related.

I'm doing Computer Science and I'd say there are quite a few attractive males in my year (me included, my mom and the people on the Internet say so).
Though while I expected them all to be socially awkward and autistic, I'm actually one of the few people without a clique. It's a little sad that I still don't have friends, even when surrounded by people who share my interests.

Still, /prog/ made me feel rather elitist about programming and related stuff, so I think it would negatively impact my ability to make friends. I don't think it would be a good thing if I were to rage at someone just because they said that Haskell being a lazy language means that you don't need to put in semicolons to terminate statements.
