Computing college course

Hey guys i have a problem, i am really interested in learning programming but so far i don't know anything. I live in the UK and will be going to college next year and i wanted to do a computing course, but the college near me doesn't run it. Would it be worth going to a college further away (about an hour bus journey) to take this course? Have any of you done it? And if o how much do you actually learn about programming?

It's basic stuff that will be taught (much better) in the first semester of the first year of a CS degree, and the second year project is more like IT than actual science.
I learnt more in my spare time than at college.

Thanks a lot man :) i'm glad i asked and saved myself over 14 hours a week let a lone the cost of the journey, guess this means i'll have to take I.T. instead...
