libcrypt on ARM5

I'm trying to compile libcrypt on a SheevaPlug running Debian Squeeze, but it keeps giving me the following error:

invalid operands to binary != (have ‘va_list’ and ‘void *’)

is there any way to get this thing to compile without major hacking?

Already done.  The bug derives from the fact that on ARM-eabi with gcc4.4, va_list is a struct.  I can't use something else right now, because I just need it as a dependency for compiling a Synchronet BBS.
