Python programming ideas

Name: Anonymous 2010-10-05 16:12

I'm interested in some good Python programs to write to test my skills and learn some things along the way.  So far I've written so very basic programs such as a Klingon to English translator and started on a simple text RPG.

Does /prog/ have any other ideas of interesting/fun programs to write in Python?

learn PHP and make websites

and no Im not suggesting this to get you to blow off serious programming. web programming is really the best bang for the buck as far as getting professional results right off the bat for the beginner. youre making the same mistake I did, asking on forums and IRC channels for advice on what to do with programming. there is a limit to how much professional programmers and univeristy CS students will help a beginner over the internet. trust me, if you want to get serious stuff rolling on your own, web programming is the only way. if you want to read sicp and k&r and think you will fast track yourself into being a systems programmer...all I can say is good luck, its been done, but not often

PROFESSIONAL TIP:
Do not learn PHP.  It is a horrible language, and its use will harm your /prog/ramming skills for years.

AMATEUR TIP: Dont pay attention to FUD about PHP on programming forums. PHP is no worse than Perl and there are sys admins who cum in their pants writing Perl scripts. PHP has a very nice helpful community, youre wasting your time thinking anyone here will fasttrack you into Satori by learning Scheme

Thanks, I lol'd heartily.

PROFESSIONAL TIP:
Be wary of >>13. It is true that PHP is no worse than Perl, but this does not contradict the wise advice of >>12.  Perl is also a horrible language, and its use will harm not only your /prog/ramming skills for years, but also any system administration ability you may have.

PROFESSIONAL SYSADMIN TIP: >>13-kun is a troll. Both PHP and most especially Perl are necessary for my work and have been for 12 years of being a sysadmin.

Go back to /jp/, stay there in the corner and never leave that place again. You don't belong here, kid.

/prog/ ⊂ /jp/

/prog/ can't be proper subset of /jp/ because /jp/ is not obsessed with anuses.

Wait a minute. Was it a trick question to ask "How do you know that /jp/ is not obsessed with anuses?"

Then I'll counter it with "I have a friend, who has a friend, who has a friend who visits /jp/"

Not fair! I had a friend ... once.

Until I couldn't afford the monthly payments for the friend service any more.
