huffman trees
People still do these in 2010? Oh wait, people use Lisp here, so of course they still do.

people still use MySQL
Its a wonder they ever started using in the first place. It's still 10 years behind everything else.

Huffman trees are still better than most of the things people try to use in their stead, and not enough people understand how they work.

It's probably good enough for what they use it for. Hell, it was even good enough for Facebook for a while.

Oh yeah, and Facebook is the epitome of excellent design and worth. May I remind you of their PHP->C++ compiler?

It's just a parody of R.E.M. -

That inspired me. I was thinking about

Whatever is weird. I had the same idea, but you need to do something like:
<1 2 3 4 5>[*.rand];
*.rand is evaluated in place and used as an array subscript so this is roughly the same as
.pick(), not
.pick(*). In both cases Whatever becomes the array length, but pick uses it as an item count and rand uses it as a maximum float value.
