when reading code not written by yourself. For example, I cannot stand it when  people use

if (condition)
    ...

    ...

else

instead of the much more readable


if (condition)
    ...
else
    if (condition)
        ...
    else
        if (condition)
            ...
        else
            if (condition)
                ...
            else
