Whats so bad in writing program for fun?
Its not like you want to debug, support, distribute or upgrade something, which would be a monotonous Software Developer job.
Toy programs test algorithms, CS ideas, new and novel approaches to problems.

COMPUTER SCIENCE IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE FUN
