Give your view as to why a course in assembly language is no
longer a requirement for a computer science degree in many colleges.

Because industry requirements are getting dumber each days and they just want more plumbers, instead of people who actually know the system inside-out. It may be that systems are getting too complex for anyone to know them in full, but that's not an excuse to not understand the basics.
