I notice you smart CS types speak of toys. Toy compilers, toy languages. Is there some consensus as to what it means? At what point is something in programming *not* a toy?

Godly C was a Godly BCPL-derivative. And so on. At one point people thought even assembler was a pointless simplification. So yeah, even C was questionable at one point, but not nearly so as the majority of languages.
