Hey, I usually never visit a text board since they're usually serious as fuck, but currently so is my determination. 8)

I'd really like to get into programming, and learning the languages but I don't know where to start and what language to be using.

I'd also like to know what kind of programs I can use to create graphics, preferably 2D sprite graphics to start with. I've been using photoshop but recoloring sprites is a pain.

If you want to get into programming, start with Python.
If you primarily want to make graphics, just learn your image editor's scripting language, or you're going to be frustrated a lot. I don't know about non-free software, but the GIMP can also be scripted in Python.
