But never mind that. Who routinely makes use of
33 hours before charging? Is it really that hard to plug the thing in when you get home? I could see on a very long plane trip, say, between the UK and Japan, that it might be useful to have more power, but many planes nowadays even provide USB power, so even that is a moot point.
I think your post is straying from the topic, though: whether the battery is 660 or 1400 mAh isn't relevant, since the whole software/hardware decoding discussion was tangential to
>>21's comment about FLAC taking up significant amounts of battery power. That is, any audio format decoded in software still provides a reasonable amount of play time. Note that Rockbox does just fine playing ogg and flac on iPods, and those formats obviously don't use the decoding hardware. In fact I don't
think it uses the hardware at all, but I could be wrong. Realistically, even software decoding is clearly light enough on the battery, regardless of file format being decoded.
And if the Zune is underpowered and can't manage to play anything in software with 3rd party firmware that's one more reason not to buy one :)
Non-removable, really? What the hell were they thinking? Didn't learn from Apple there, I see.
